Due to the spill, southbound lanes on the interstate onramp were closed near California Avenue at approximately 7 a.m., according to Sgt. Nick Street with UHP.
The trooper was speaking with the driver when the driver refused to comply to the road closure and sped off. Street say the trooper had to jump from the side-steps of the truck before it reached freeway speeds. The trooper is conscious and complaining of arm and back pain, according to Street. He is at the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The semi driver left the scene, was eventually found and taken into custody.
Road closures are in place near I-215 and California Avenue in Salt Lake City. The identities of the driver has not been publicly identified. The investigation is ongoing. UHP posted on Twitter Tuesday after, "Our Trooper, Cpl. S Myer was involved in an incident this morning during a closure of an on ramp. He is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery. Thank you to all that have been involved."
